A kitchen makeover for a very special cook!

As a new grandma there’s nothing that fills my heart more than seeing my little precious granddaughter have fun playing and sharing special moments with her. When I asked my daughter what we could get her for a christmas gift she said, “ a play kitchen.” My daughter had fond memories of playing with the little wooden play kitchen at the Poestenkill Nursery School she attended as a child.

So, I began the search… not online but in my own garage! I was planning to have a garage sale in the late spring and we had this small wooded bench that I considered selling. My sister, Lisa spotted it and suggested the bench would make a perfect play kitchen. She was so right! I tucked it away while my creative juices started to flow.

In the late fall, my husband and I began to work on transforming this ordinary bench into the perfect custom play kitchen for our little one. As in all kitchen makeovers, big and small, it had to have function with updated colors, finishes and storage.

To give it style, I used fun paint colors, fabric, added a chalk board, a window (for takeout orders), pretty curtains and a matching apron.

This labor of love brought us so much joy and we couldn’t wait to give it to her. On Christmas morning when little Nora saw her new kitchen, the look on her face was priceless. She has not stopped playing with it since and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Besides doing custom kitchen cabinet painting, designing and installing backsplashes, I also accept certain custom painting projects, such as staircases, fireplaces and special projects. Give me a call to chat about your project.

Do you have nostalgic items from your childhood, I’d love to hear about them. Leave a comment below.
